How can I check that a saved USCIS form is still the right version to use?
Open the current official form page and compare its acceptable-edition information with the form and instructions you saved. Check the complete set of pages rather than the filename or download date alone. Keep edition review separate from eligibility, fees and filing-destination checks.

- Check the actual acceptable edition rather than the filename.
- Review the full form and matching instructions.
- Keep fees, destination and eligibility as separate checks.
A recent filename does not prove an acceptable edition
A file named with the current year may still contain an older form. A form downloaded recently may also need to be checked against the current official instructions. The relevant question is what the agency currently accepts for that particular request.
Begin at the official landing page, not an advertisement or a mirrored PDF. The agency’s page links the form, instructions and current notices. Keep that source URL with the working copy so another reviewer can identify what was checked.
Review the complete set of pages
USCIS form pages warn that mixed editions can create problems. Check the edition information across the saved set and avoid combining pages from different downloads simply because their layouts look similar. A replacement page should be reviewed in the context of the full form.
Keep the relevant instructions with the working file. Form questions and instructions can refer to specific sections, so using a familiar old instruction file with a newly saved form may create confusion even where the filenames seem related.
Separate version review from the other filing checks
Confirming an edition is not the same as confirming the filing basis, current fee, signature requirements or destination. Give those questions their own entries and sources. A checked edition box should not make an unresolved filing question disappear.
This guide does not reproduce a universal edition date or filing method. Official alerts may affect different forms differently. Read the particular form’s record and preserve any issue that needs qualified review.
Keep a dated working record
Write down the form number, source URL, date you checked and the issue you verified. A dated note supports a review trail; it does not promise that information will stay unchanged. Revisit high-risk fields before an actual submission.
Use the free checklist below to separate the questions. It does not submit a request, create an agency receipt or guarantee that a filing will be accepted. Where instructions conflict or an individual issue arises, obtain authoritative clarification.
| Record or question | What to keep distinct |
|---|---|
| Download date | When a copy was saved |
| Edition information | Which form set is being reviewed |
| Submission readiness | Additional instructions and individual questions |

Common questions
Is a filename ending in the current year enough?
No. Check the agency’s acceptable-edition information and the actual form pages.
Can I combine pages from two saved form versions?
Do not assume that is acceptable. USCIS warns about mixing form editions; review the complete saved set against current official guidance.
Does checking the edition establish eligibility?
No. Version review and eligibility are separate questions.
Will the free checklist automatically file my request?
No. It is a working review organizer. It does not submit anything to USCIS.
