How can I organize documents before reviewing filing instructions?
Use this organizer to gather records, identify missing information and prepare questions. It does not replace the evidence list for a particular form, establish eligibility or tell you what to submit. Start with the official instructions for the relevant process.

Create an inventory before making copies
Use a separate row for each document, its issuing authority, the name shown, the date and where the original is stored. A structured inventory helps you notice missing pages or inconsistent information without altering the source document.
Keep the original document separate from a working copy. Do not write corrections onto original records or invent missing information. Note the discrepancy and identify the issuing authority or qualified professional who can address it.
Organize questions by document
Mark a record as available, requested or needing review. Separate questions about identity, translation and filing instructions. This makes a consultation or an official inquiry more focused and reduces the chance that an unresolved question disappears in a large folder.
A translation question belongs with the requesting authority’s instructions. A school, consulate, court and USCIS may have different requirements. A checklist for one destination should not be assumed to work for every destination.
Keep a review trail
Date the working checklist and record which official instructions you used. Before a submission, revisit any item marked unresolved. Downloading this editorial checklist does not download an official form. Checklist selections stay in the current page only and are not sent to a server.
Make the organizer useful to the next reviewer
Give each record a stable private reference and retain the connection between the original, any copy and a translation. Mark a record as missing, requested or available rather than checking an item merely because its name appears on a list. The reviewer should be able to locate the complete source without guessing which of several scans is final.
A useful handoff also identifies what has not been decided. Place a short question beside an unclear date, name variation or issuing authority, with a link to the relevant official instruction. Do not attach a legal conclusion to a record simply to make the checklist look complete. The free download preserves organization; it is not a certificate that a filing packet is ready.
