What this notice covers
This notice describes the current Immigrant Insider website and the information involved in its editorial tools and correspondence. Privacy questions can be sent to hello@immigrantinsider.com. It does not describe the separate practices of agencies, law firms, translation companies or other websites you choose to visit.
Page delivery and technical requests
The site uses Cloudflare infrastructure for hosting, delivery and security. Loading a page or asset involves technical request information, such as the requested URL, network address and browser information, which hosting systems may process to deliver and protect the service. The website application does not create a reader account or a personal immigration-case database. Audience analytics can use a browser identifier, as described below.
Cloudflare publishes its own information about its processing in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. Its infrastructure practices should be read separately from the browser-tool behavior described here.
Search queries and shared URLs
Search matching runs in your browser after the site loads its editorial search index. Your query and selected filters can appear in the page URL. Opening or sharing that URL can include those values in a page request, and your browser may keep them in history. Use topic words and form numbers rather than names, case numbers or sensitive personal details.
Checklist selections and downloads
Checked items remain in the open page's memory and clear when it reloads. The application does not save them to a reader account, browser local storage or a server-side checklist. A text download is generated in your browser. Once downloaded or printed, the copy is under your control and may remain on your device or in your printer's systems.
Your analytics settings
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand readership and improve guides, navigation and free tools. It starts automatically on the production site without an opt-in banner. A saved opt-out, Global Privacy Control or a Do Not Track request prevents our Google analytics code from loading. Turning analytics off keeps the guides, search, checklists and source links available.
When you change the setting, we remember it in this browser's local storage so that it can be applied on later visits. No preference record is written merely because analytics starts automatically. This functional setting is separate from analytics cookies and does not contain your immigration records or checklist answers. Clearing browser storage can remove the remembered choice.
Use Privacy settings in the footer to turn off future analytics collection. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track take priority over a saved on setting. You can also open the settings here.
What analytics measures
When analytics is active, we measure visits to public page paths, article identifiers, content types and topic categories. We also measure reading engagement and scroll milestones; search result counts, result positions, search-length groups and recognized form-number or topic categories; selected filters; checklist checks, downloads and print actions; FAQ openings; and clicks on source, provider and contact links. These events help us see where readers find a useful next step or encounter difficulty.
The analytics configuration excludes page query strings and URL fragments, raw search text, email contents, uploaded documents and personal case identifiers. Search measurement uses recognized editorial topics or form numbers, rather than the text typed into the search box. A contact-click event records the action, not the message you later write. We do not use the Google Analytics User-ID feature to connect activity to a reader account.
Analytics cookies and Google's processing
When analytics is active, Google Analytics may set first-party cookies containing a random browser identifier and process device or browser information, interaction timestamps and a referrer's origin. Our analytics page and referrer fields exclude query strings and fragments. A random identifier can distinguish browser visits; this information should not be treated as completely anonymous. Google also receives technical connection information when its service is contacted.
Our configuration keeps advertising storage, advertising user data and personalized advertising consent denied, and disables Google Signals. Audience measurement does not enable those advertising features. Google's explanation of Analytics data collection describes its use of cookies, identifiers and technical information. The Google Privacy Policy describes Google's broader processing practices. Our opt-out implementation uses the controls described in Google's privacy-settings documentation.
Email and correction inquiries
The correction tool prepares an email in your email application; it does not send the message automatically. If you choose to send an email, the address, message and any attachments you include are processed by the email services involved and received by the publication. We use correspondence to respond to the inquiry, investigate an editorial issue or maintain the related communication.
Please send the page URL, the sentence or field involved and a relevant source link. Do not include passports, case files, receipt numbers or private medical or financial records. An editorial inquiry is not a confidential attorney-client consultation.
Retention and your questions
Checklist state clears after reload. A saved analytics setting remains in this browser until it is updated or its storage is cleared. Turning analytics off stops future collection through our analytics integration and removes analytics cookies that the site can access. It does not automatically erase events already sent to Google. You can also use your browser controls to remove existing analytics cookies.
Correspondence can remain in the publication's mailbox and in the email services used to exchange it. Contact hello@immigrantinsider.com about analytics opt-out, information previously collected, a message you sent or another privacy concern. Identify the request without adding sensitive records. We do not request immigration documents to answer a privacy inquiry.
