How can a sponsor reconcile financial records without treating unlike figures as interchangeable?
A financial-support evidence file should identify the person, income source and period associated with each figure. Reconciliation means explaining differences in source records, not changing numbers to make a required total appear satisfied.

Identify which financial figure each document reports
A financial evidence index should preserve the name and period of every figure it records. A tax return, a wage statement, an employer letter and a bank balance do not necessarily measure the same thing. Start with the I-864 instructions for the relevant request, then identify which document answers each question on that form. Avoid placing every amount under an unlabeled column called income. A number can be accurate within its own document while still being inappropriate as a substitute for a different financial measure or reporting period.
Separate a tax period from current employment evidence
Tax evidence concerns a particular reporting year, while an employer statement may describe a current rate of pay. Payroll records can cover individual weeks, months or other periods. Record those intervals instead of assuming that a recent deposit equals annual earnings. For illustration, a job beginning late in a tax year can produce a historical tax figure different from a later stated annual salary. The index should explain the chronology through the source records, rather than adjust one number merely to make it resemble another or conceal a change in employment.
Keep the sponsor and household contributors identifiable
When more than one person is involved, give each person's evidence a separate identity in the working file. A jointly filed tax document may contain amounts associated with more than one taxpayer; its total should not silently be attributed to a single sponsor. Identify the source of each relevant amount and the proposed role of any household participant. Forms I-864 and I-864A have distinct purposes. Their current instructions determine how a particular arrangement is documented, so a household relationship should not be treated as automatic permission to combine every available financial record.
Reconcile discrepancies without forcing totals to match
If figures disagree, investigate the labels and periods before assuming that a document is wrong. Gross pay, net pay, a tax-line amount and the balance in an account can all differ for understandable reasons. List the difference and the supporting explanation, such as a pay-period change or a jointly reported amount. Preserve the original figures in the index; do not edit a statement, invent a missing payment or reconstruct a tax result from memory. A separate explanation can make the discrepancy reviewable without altering the source that created it.
Document the financial question for review
The review package should contain the identified sponsor's records, a clearly labeled chronology of financial changes and the unresolved questions about particular amounts or contributors. Keep evidence of assets distinct from evidence of earnings rather than treating both as the same type of income. This organizer does not calculate a required threshold or determine whether a sponsor qualifies. Its value is to make the inputs intelligible, so the current official instructions and an appropriate professional review can address the actual financial requirements without relying on an unexplained total assembled from unlike records.
