Which reverse sides and attachments should I include when preparing a document for translation?
Inventory the whole source before selecting pages. Reverse-side entries, attached certificates and continuation sheets may change the meaning of the front page, so confirm the receiving requirement before omitting them.

Look for content hidden by the document format
Booklets, folded certificates and stapled packets can conceal endorsements or continuation text. Open and scan them carefully without damaging the source. Record which pages are blank and which contain marks rather than assuming every reverse side is irrelevant.
Identify what belongs to the record
An attachment mentioned in an operative clause may be part of the document, while a provider’s cover letter may be a separate item. Keep both identifiable. If the relationship is unclear, ask the issuer or recipient instead of letting a scanner or translator decide by appearance.
Use a page inventory at handoff
List source filenames and page counts, then compare them with the delivered translation. The inventory is a free completeness tool, not proof that the legal evidence is sufficient. Ask how the provider represents blank pages and unreadable marks when full-document scope matters.
Find the document's continuation signals
A reverse side may carry an amendment, grading key, signature or certification that changes how the front is understood. Look for phrases such as continued overleaf, see annex or valid with attachment, along with page numbering and matching record numbers. These signals connect pages that can look unrelated when scanned separately. A blank-looking reverse should be checked in adequate light before being excluded.
Attachments can supply the operative content of a short cover document. A certificate referring to a schedule of names or a judgment referring to numbered orders is incomplete for understanding when that schedule is absent. Do not replace an attachment with a typed summary prepared from memory. Obtain the actual referenced source, or identify its absence so the recipient can decide what is needed.
Keep page relationships visible in translation
For USCIS, the full-translation requirement concerns the foreign-language document supplied, including meaningful attached material. Give the translator an ordered page list showing which reverse belongs to which front and which annex belongs to which main record. A two-sided identity card should not become two unrelated certificates in the output. Conversely, two separate certificates should not be merged merely because they were scanned into one PDF.
An effective review compares source page numbers, document identifiers and cross-references with the delivered package. Where a page is genuinely blank, a provider may describe that fact rather than manufacture content; agree on the presentation if the recipient expects a complete booklet. If a continuation was discovered after delivery, have the translation scope reassessed and the package revised. This preserves the relationship among pages instead of circulating a detached translated paragraph whose legal or academic context is missing. Check that an attached schedule carries the same reference number as the main record; an unrelated enclosure should remain a separate document in the translation inventory.
