How should an academic transcript be translated without converting grades or losing course information?
Preserve course titles, grades, credits, academic periods and grading legends. A transcript translation communicates the record as issued; grade conversion, transfer credit and U.S. equivalency are separate determinations controlled by the receiving institution or evaluator.

Keep the academic table coherent
Read headings across semesters and continuation pages before translating individual rows. A course code, title, credit value and result must remain associated with the same row. Distinguish attempted credits from earned credits and current-term results from cumulative totals.
Include the interpretive material
Grading scales, abbreviation keys, repeat policies and academic-standing notes can appear on the reverse or final page. They are part of understanding the record, not optional decoration. Do not calculate a new GPA or replace a local grade with an assumed U.S. letter grade within the translation.
Match the delivery instruction to the stage
Applicant uploads may be accepted for review while official direct records are requested later. Stanford and Harvard publish their own staged instructions; those examples do not create a universal university rule. Check the exact program and preserve the original-language record beside its translation.
A practical review for this handoff
Use a row-level check for table continuity: confirm that a course continuing across a page break retains the right code, title and result. Repeated column headings can disappear during PDF conversion. If the source uses footnote symbols beside particular grades, preserve the link to the explanatory note so the recipient can interpret that result correctly.
Preserve the academic record's internal structure
A transcript may group work by term, academic year, examination session or qualification stage. Preserve that grouping because it explains the order in which courses were attempted and completed. Repeated course codes may indicate a repeat attempt rather than a duplicate line. Transfer credits, exemptions, withdrawals and incompletes should retain their own labels instead of being converted into ordinary completed coursework.
A useful line-by-line review compares course code, original title, translated title, credit or hour value and result. Where a heading applies to an entire column, reproduce that relationship clearly. If a grade key appears on the reverse, make it available with the course pages. A table can be linguistically accurate yet academically confusing when a result is detached from its term or the scale that explains it.
Leave grading and credit decisions to the designated reviewer
The Department of Education describes recognition as a decision of the receiving school, employer or licensing authority. Translation is not a license to calculate a U.S. GPA or convert local units into semester credits. If a recipient requests course-by-course evaluation, that is a separate analytical product. Preserve the original numbers and grading legend so the evaluator can explain its own method instead of trying to reverse-engineer an undocumented conversion.
For a sample discrepancy check, compare a transcript showing a repeated course with a consolidated record that lists only the final result. Do not delete the earlier attempt from the translation to make the documents match. Ask the institution or recipient how the two records should be supplied. If the transcript predates final conferral, pair it with the later award evidence when requested rather than inserting a completion date. The translated record should show the academic history actually documented at its issue date.

Common questions
Can the translator calculate a U.S. GPA?
Keep grade conversion separate from the translation and follow the recipient’s requested evaluation process.
Should the back-page grading scale be included?
Include it in scope review because it explains the results and abbreviations.
Are attempted and earned credits interchangeable?
No. Preserve their labels and values separately.
Does uploading a scan satisfy official delivery?
Only if the recipient’s current instructions say so for that application stage.
How does Eagle Translate price a dense transcript with grade tables?
The Certified plan is published at $24.95 per billed page. Eagle Translate compares PDF pages with the word-based equivalent at up to 250 words per page and charges for the higher quantity. Include legends and other text-bearing pages in the quote so a dense transcript is not priced from its page count alone.
