The short answer

What should I confirm before sending student records for translation or evaluation?

Get the receiving institution’s written requirements before ordering a service. Confirm which record is needed, whether translation or evaluation is requested, who must send it and how delivery is handled. Keep that academic workflow separate from visa issuance and ongoing immigration-status questions.

What this guide covers

  • Start with the institution receiving the record
  • Separate academic content from document interpretation
  • Clarify delivery without assuming a universal rule
  • Keep immigration questions in their own lane

At a glance

  • Ask the recipient before buying a document service.
  • Translation and evaluation have distinct purposes.
  • An academic handoff does not decide immigration status.

Start with the institution receiving the record

A student file may pass through a school, registrar, translator and evaluator. Before asking anyone to prepare a package, identify which institution will make the decision and request its current written document instructions. A provider’s standard package is not a substitute for the recipient’s requirement.

Keep the recipient’s wording in the working file rather than relying on a paraphrase. “Transcript,” “translation” and “evaluation” can refer to different deliverables. If the requirement is unclear, ask the receiving institution to explain what it needs before paying for additional work.

Separate academic content from document interpretation

A transcript records study completed at an institution. Translation conveys text into another language. Credential evaluation interprets academic credentials for a specified use. Those roles can interact without being interchangeable.

Create a handoff sheet showing the source institution, the record requested, the language and the intended recipient. Note which person or office is responsible for each step. This makes it easier to identify a missing action without assuming that one service covers every part of the workflow.

Clarify delivery without assuming a universal rule

Ask the recipient whether the record must come directly from an institution, through a specified platform or through another documented method. Do not open, reseal or modify a document package based on an assumption about what “official” means.

This guide does not assert a universal rule for sealed records, encrypted delivery or original documents. Those requirements belong to the receiving institution. Save its written answer and keep any service quote aligned with the requested deliverable.

Keep immigration questions in their own lane

Admission to a school, issuance of a visa and maintenance of student status are separate matters. DHS’s general student guidance points students to the designated school official for relevant school-status questions. A document handoff is not a decision about work or travel.

No school deadline, evaluation price or processing estimate is verified here. The free organizer below helps prepare a recipient-specific inquiry and protects against buying an unnecessary service. It does not assess a student’s immigration eligibility.
