How do I check signature roles before sending a USCIS form or online submission?
Identify each required signer, read the current form and channel instructions, and preserve the final signed version. Do not assume one signature covers every applicant, preparer or interpreter role. This workflow does not authorize someone to sign for another person or turn proposed policy language into an accepted signature method.

Identify every signature role on the actual form
Review the form's applicant, petitioner, preparer, interpreter or representative sections as applicable. Record who is responsible for each required field without assuming they are the same person. A person who typed information or translated a question does not automatically become the signer for the requestor. Any authority to sign for someone else needs its own applicable instruction and factual basis.
Check the current channel-specific rule
Paper, an online form and a supported PDF-upload process can have different instructions. Read the current operative form guidance instead of importing a signature method from another filing. A Federal Register proposal provides context about policy discussions but is not, by itself, permission to use a method for a particular submission.
Read the completed content before signing
Compare the final answers and attachments with the source records and resolve uncertainties through appropriate review. A signature is not an administrative decoration to add before the document is complete. Do not invent a missing date, reuse an unexplained prior signature or let convenience conceal who actually reviewed the information.
Recheck the version that will be transmitted
Ensure that the signed file or paper pages are the same version intended for dispatch. A later edit can make a saved draft different from the submitted record. Where an official procedure requires signing at a particular event or before an officer, preserve that boundary rather than treating all signature fields as advance-signature tasks.
Preserve the signature check without public exposure
Keep the final version and the official instruction relied upon in the private file. Avoid posting full signature pages or identity documents in public troubleshooting requests. This publication cannot determine whether a disputed signature is legally valid, cure an unauthorized act or guarantee that a technically accepted submission satisfies all filing requirements.

Common questions
Can I sign a USCIS form for someone because I helped type it?
Helping with typing does not automatically authorize signing for another person. Check the actual role, form instructions and any applicable authority before relying on a signature arrangement.
