Does my visa expiration date tell me when I must leave?
The Department of State distinguishes visa validity for travel from the period of stay authorized at admission. A visa can expire during an authorized stay, and a long-valid visa does not itself permit a stay until its printed expiration.

Visa validity concerns travel to seek entry
A U.S. visa is used to travel to a port of entry and request admission. Its validity and entries notation concern use of that visa; they do not promise admission or determine the duration of every visit. A multiple-entry notation should therefore not be converted into unlimited permission to remain or to perform activities unrelated to the classification.
A date ledger works only when its column headings are precise. Label a field as visa validity, admission-related information or a later decision date as appropriate. Avoid a single column called immigration expiration, which can conceal the distinction the review needs to examine.
The admission and later decisions answer the stay question
The Department of State directs readers to the admission record for the authorized stay, and identifies CBP as the admission authority. If USCIS later makes a relevant extension or change decision, that is a separate event to read in full. Compare the actual records instead of choosing whichever date is furthest in the future or easiest to understand.
Copy the relevant date fields into a table with a column for the issuer and event. Mark visa-use questions separately from stay questions. If two records appear inconsistent, preserve both and ask which process owns the issue.
Evidence that explains this particular question
Visa label: Read the classification and validity information as part of the consular document. Entries notation: Record the actual printed wording instead of translating it into unlimited travel permission. Admission event: Match the travel to the record created at entry. Later decision: Retain any subsequent agency notice that may need separate interpretation.
For example, a visa can display a later expiration than the admission record for a particular visit. That difference is not resolved by copying the later date into a calendar. Identify what each date governs and whether a later agency decision changed the relevant record.
The boundary to resolve before the next step
A useful date comparison names the document, issuer and event: visa expiration, admission notation or later decision. Avoid a single combined immigration-expiration field that hides those differences.

Common questions
Can a visa expire while I am in an authorized stay?
The Department of State distinguishes those periods; visa expiration alone is not the authorized-stay date.
Does a valid visa guarantee entry?
No. CBP separately decides admission.
Does multiple entry mean unlimited time in the country?
No. Entries and duration of stay are different concepts.
What date should be reviewed after a later USCIS decision?
Read the actual decision and relevant admission record together rather than using the visa date alone.
